feature request

This is something I'd like to see us do on a framework-wide level, so 
all our apps could take advantage of it. I'm sure it's going to take 
someone smarter than me to do, that though. We have something in our 
feature request database on this; attaching your email (this ups the 
visibility of this request in the DB.) Thanks!
