Questions on upgrading file formats for OO3

I think the example of Photoshop was a good one.

I also think that Mac Office does a reasonable job. If I open a file
that Word understands and can save to, it leaves it as-is ... I believe
until I make some change that doesn't fit in the current file format.
If I attempt to save the resulting document, it warns me about the
incompatibility, and gives me a chance to choose a different format or
use the existing (less rich) format.

I think it'll count that Omni goes with something familiar to end users
(like the examples set by common apps like Photoshop and Office), and
still fits other requirements that you may want to fit in (like being
CVS savvy).
