I think that there's some value in comparing the price of something
like software to the cost of other common things we pay for all the
time, to put it in perspective.

For example, dinner and a movie for me and my wife can easily cost
over $50 and that's with free baby-sitting...

That's 3-4 hours worth of entertainment or what have you.
