The default, copy mode makes it easier to move the outline with 
attachments to other machines or send it to other enlightened 
colleagues who use OmniOutliner.  Links won't necessarily point to the 
same thing on different machines.  The files pointed to may not even 
exist on the other machine.

If you control-click the OO3 file in a Finder window and choose "Show 
Package Contents" you can look inside and see the copies of 
attachments.
