file name extensions

Any suggestions on how to get OmniWeb to handle our own weird
extensions... for example, we want to use WWW/OmniWeb as a front end
to our internal help system. Hence, I want to be able to launch an
app by clicking on its icon in the web page... so I anchored the web
to a .csh shell script. is there an elegant way to get OmniWeb to
parse a set of file name extensions? Sort of like the mailcap file
that Mosaic relies on (but not as ugly).... for example, it would be
really cool if we could just use some dwrites.... if this is not
planned for a future release, then i would personally find it a very
useful feature.
