Indeed. Centering is not too bad, maybe even nice.

This actually is, well annoying is a big word, but let's say missing.
The document is as wide as the widest single element on a page, i.e.
a picture, or, as mentioned, a <pre> section. (Normal text should wrap
no matter how wide the view or window is.) If the window doesn't fit
the biggest thing in it, scrollbars should be provided. If the window 
is being resized to a bigger extent, the scrollbars can disappear.
