how to save text???

I have a question so basic that I am embarassed to ask it.

How can I save the displayed text following download?  I  
can find the graphics (gifs generally) in  
/tmp/OmniWeb/OmniWeb-(login_name)nnnnnn but I cannot find  
the text anywhere.

I could cut and paste text into another window and save  
that, but it converts tabs and formatting into spaces and  
line ends into hard returns and makes other undesirable  
formatting changes.

Is there anyway just to save simple ascii text?

Please excuse the dumb question.
