You are right. For me the question is not Math Type vs Equation 
Service, but how to improve the interaction between Equation Service 
and Omniouliner.

Now I am using the following approach, that I find quite nice:
(1) I write the latex source code as a note in an outline
(2)  then I use the command + < keys to typeset the source and get  the 
equation as an image in the paste board.
(3) I paste it in the outline, hide the source et voila.
It is a smooth process and gives very nice result. It doesn't work so 
well for inline math but after all this is not a TeX document.

Concerning the frame, I think it is more on the Equation Service side. 
And with 12 pt font in Equation Service, it gives a fair result.

Overall I am quite happy with the interaction between Equation Service 
and OmniOutliner. It is a very convenient way to outline lecture notes 
and other scientific reports. I am now waiting to see the export as 
latex document...
