For "to do" or status style documents, I tend to keep one for each
disjoint activity - for example, I've got one for my research, one for
my work, and one for home.

I also keep "arvhive" outlines, to reduce the size of the outlines I
work with on a daily basis (typically I only have the current month's
status information in there, and move everything to the archive at the
beginning of the month). The batch searching in OO3 is a gigantic
help when I'm trying to retrieve information from the archive.
