Caching and opening files

Several months ago I was very pleased to find that I could use OmniWeb to
download a Mathematica notebook from a remote machine, and it would
automatically open it in Mathematica. This resulted from the notebook file
being cached in a /tmp directory and then opened -- with a .ma extension it
naturally opened in Mathematica.

I planned to experiment with using this feature in an instructional laboratory.

Now that I have gotten around to this experiment, I find that it simply doesn't
work. Although I use precisely the same URL format, there is apparently a
difference in the way files are treated when the http server is located on the
same subnet. What happens in this case is that the file is not cached and
opened, but simply transfered as a text file. Mathematica notebooks are stored
in their own baroque text markup language, and it's not a pretty sight when
they show up as text files.

So the question is: is there a workaround, a way to force OmniWeb to cache and
open files obtained from a local http server?

Whether or not there is, please plan to remove this "feature" from future
versions, or at least make it a selectable preference to ALWAYS cache and open
files.
